Researchers at the Peter Medawar Building for Pathogen Research undertake research in pathogen diversity through experimental and theoretical approaches.
The Peter Medawar Building houses high quality molecular biology and cellular immunology laboratory space at categories II and III containment levels together with the space and infrastructure necessary for the bioinformatic work which is essential for the exploitation of the generated data.
The very high quality containment laboratories in the building are necessary for the handling of the pathogens under study, which include Neisseria meningitidis, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitits B and C viruses, dengue, and SARS-CoV-2.
The consortium brings together groups with predominant interests in pathogen diversity with immunologists who address how pathogen evolution allows persistence and disease progression.
