Martha Zewdie

Postdoctoral Scientist

I am interested in understanding immunity to tropical and infectious diseases, focusing on Tuberculosis and Melioidosis. My previous work focused on Tuberculosis and evaluating immune responses in patients, contacts of patients who are infected but healthy as well as those who remain resistant to infection, healthy endemic controls, as well as vaccinated individuals. Together with understanding the role of various components of our immune system, I am interested in the search and discovery of biomarkers that can serve as correlates of protection.

My current area of focus is vaccine development for Melioidosis where I will work on evaluation of the safety and immunogenicity of a sub-unit vaccine against Melioidosis. I look forward to discovering insightful links among Melioidosis, Tuberculosis, and Leprosy.
